Il est pour tous 'The King Of Ghazals'. Depuis la mort de leur fils sa femme Chitra et lui ne se produisent plus dans les fabuleux duos qui ont fait leur gloire. Il est maintenant seul à se produire.
Pour vous donner une idée, lorsque nous nous trouvions en Inde, Jagjit a sorti une cassette qui s'est arrachée à 2 millions d'exemplaires en deux jours!
Elégance, suavité, finesse du phrasé, musicalité extrème: que du plaisir!
Dans une interview Jagjit a prétendu livrer quelques secrets de fabrication:
"I do choose the nazms myself ['nazm' est l'équivalent de 'chanson']. As a trained musician, who knows the language, I first choose the ghazal and then set the tune. I only sing nazms that I can pour my soul into. I try to make sure that the meaning of the nazms can be accessed by every one of my listeners. After that I select the instruments, the sound, which is suitable for that particular poetry. And selection of a raga is also kept in mind, in the studio I sit for mixing the song also and I try to use new sounds, new technology in my ghazals. Why not? The thought in the poetry is the only muse."

Essayez par exemple 'Mainda Ishq Bhi Tu' sur l'album 'Different strokes', un sommet! Ou alors 'Maa Sunao Mujhe', avec Siza Roy, sur l'album 'Cry for Cry'. Et encore 'Mujh Mein Jo Kuchh Achchha', sur le même album.
